Utilizing Online Applications for Traditional Public Relations

Current Position:

Jose Mallabo serves as Director of Financial Communications at eBay Inc. Since the conference, eBay has promoted Jose to Director, Corporate & Financial Communications.

Background:

Jose Mallabo has more than 16 years of corporate communications experience leading public relations and investor relations programs for blue-chip, small-cap, business-to-business and business-to-consumer technology companies.

He presently serves as senior manager of financial communications at eBay Inc in San Jose, Calif. In this role he oversees and leads the company’s communications strategies around its financial activities and performance as well as setting strategy for internal and external communications around mergers and acquisitions globally.

Prior to joining eBay earlier this year, Jose served as vice president and group manager of the technology practice of Ketchum Public Relations in San Francisco.  He joined the company in July 2005 to lead client programs and develop new business.

Jose spearheaded Kodak’s entrance into the consumer inkjet printer market with its new EasyShare All-in-One printers. For Socket Communications, he is working with senior management to reposition the company into handheld computing market and has led the overhaul of the company’s business and PR strategy.  He also oversees the account team supporting the Open Mobile Alliance’s international thought leadership campaign to drive awareness about wireless standards.

Prior to joining Ketchum he served as senior account director at Text 100 for three years where he led the program and account team for Xerox Global Services.  He also led the effort to establish the agency’s financial communications practice and supported regional new business efforts in the IT services market.  Prior to that he founded Full Disclosure Media, LLC, where he led corporate development efforts plus the firms’ Web services strategy, partnerships and corporate communications practice (which delivered services to technology companies such as Selectica, Kinesys Software and Intellicomm). Before establishing FDM in 1999, Jose held manager-level positions at the following agencies: The Financial Relations Board, The Hoffman Agency and McQuerter Group. In these roles he provided PR and IR counsel to approximately 30 emerging and blue-chip companies including: Spectrian Corporation, SDL, Aehr Test Systems, CIDCO, Quantum Corporation, Preview Travel, Navigant International, Hewlett-Packard, Vina Technologies, Socket Communications and ATMnet. 

Additionally, Jose has published original research in public relations and speech communications.  He holds a master of sciences degree in mass communications from San Diego State University and a bachelor’s degree in communications from La Salle University in Philadelphia.
